TECHNIQUE
Cleaning
Wire brush/grind. Remove all slag and spatter.
FIELD TIPS — WeldIQ
▸Maintain consistent stickout (5/8 to 1 in). Too long = excess spatter. Too short = burnback.
▸Check gas flow before welding — flowmeter should read 35-50 CFH. Draft/wind will blow gas away; use windscreens in field.
▸100% CO2: more penetration but more spatter than mixed gas. Good for thicker sections and field work.
▸Verify preheat with a temperature-indicating crayon (Tempilstik) or contact pyrometer. Check 3 inches from the weld on both sides.
